It’s summer time, even for homeschoolers! However, if you are year round homeschoolers, you may be continuing on to keep a homeschool rhythm (here is ours) and little brains fresh. If you are a mom who takes delight in making to do lists just as much as checking boxes off, here are some easy and simple ways to use the slow down.
Homeschool Summer Tweaks
- Try a new recipe each week: This is a great time to experiment with new recipes that could be contenders to add into your regular meal plan during the year. Ask one child to be sous chef on rotation. Here is a pasta recipe and a salad recipe we will try out this week.
- Friday board game days: My husband has collected so many great games over the years. This is something we have neglected during the school year. However, board games are a great way to keep your minds active, and now there are so many educational games worth your buck! Current favorite board games we plan to play this summer – Sushi Go!, Settlers of Catan, Trekking the National Parks, Ticket to Ride, Guess in 10, and Sequence.
- Sunscreen / No Screen Days: Use the extra time to visit more pretty nature scenes in your state. We are using the Around California guide from Beautiful Feet Books, and there are a lot of great field trip ideas I want to take advantage of.
Summer Goals
A sound goal no matter what your plans would be connection. Invest in these precious relationships and enjoy each other’s company doing what brings the family joy. Have a beach day, find a new hiking trail, have a surprise frozen yogurt outing! This the prime time for some memory making. The regular school year has enough work to compensate for some summer homeschool fun!
