Maybe it’s the cooler mornings. Maybe it’s the cal Maybe it’s the cooler mornings. Maybe it’s the calendar feeling full. Either way, fall is when the mixing bowls tend to come out at home.

There’s something about baking that slows me down in the best way. Flour on the counter, a teen measuring spices next to me, simple conversation (and high kicks apparently) while we wait on the oven. Food for the family, and filling for me too.

Here’s my go to most every fall. Lightly sweetened, cozy, and easy enough for a weekday.

🍂 Lightly Sweet Pumpkin Muffins (makes 12) adapted from Sally’s Baking Addiction recipe.

Dry:
1 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Wet:
1 can (15 oz) pumpkin purée
2 eggs
1/3 cup melted butter or coconut oil
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt or milk
1 tsp vanilla

Optional: a handful of chocolate chips, pecans, or a sprinkle of oats on top

1️⃣ Preheat oven to 375°F and line a muffin tin.
2️⃣ Whisk the dry ingredients in one bowl.
3️⃣ Whisk the wet ingredients in another.
4️⃣ Gently fold together until just combined. Add any extras.
5️⃣ Fill cups nearly to the top and bake 20 to 24 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.

Save this one for your next slow fall morning. What’s YOUR favorite thing to bake when the weather cools? 👇

For a long time, I thought giving my teens freedom For a long time, I thought giving my teens freedom would feel like one big moment of letting go. It turns out that it is actually a whole lot of small ones.

These last few months, for #homestretchhomeschooling we have talked about discernment and raising capable independent thinkers. What comes next is giving them room to live it out, while we are still close enough to help.

The chain gets longer as they show readiness. It can also get a little shorter for a season. Both are love.

Where is the chain moving in your house right now?

Soon, I will have a guide for these conversations with your teen. Comment “VIP” to make sure you are on my email list to hear about it first!
