As each of my children reached the milestone of school age, I realized the need to combine as many subjects as we can for sanity. Does such a magical homeschool curriculum exist? At first, I was not sure how I could engage everyone at their level. However, I have found some solid homeschool resources that have proved effective for our crew. Meet our living feast for the year!
Whole Family Subjects
A Gentle Feast
We are using Cycle 3, which is Reforms, Revolutions, and Reconstruction. It covers Ancient Rome, British/World History (1800-1900), and American History (1800s). I love that it covers elementary thru high school, with an excellent book list for individual reading.
Morning Time
Whitney from Brighter Day Press creates Gospel-centered resources for homeschoolers that are thoughtful and beautiful from the inside out. Her Morning Time volumes are simple, yet rich to follow along with for all of my children.
Habit Training
I love Simply Charlotte Mason. They have helped me so much in implementing more Charlotte Mason, or CM, principles into our homeschool days. We are using Laying Down the Rails for habit training this school year.
Nature Study
Being California natives, we will dive into the California Nature Guide from Chickee & Roo. We will take this slow, and probably not cover this every single week. Since it is year round, we can pick it up for years to come. CM Simple Studies has great nature study guides based on the Clara Dillingham Pierson book series. We will go through Among the Meadow People.
Science
We will be using Beautiful Feet’s History of Science read alouds together. It covers science greats such as Archimedes, Galileo, Edison, and Newton. The simple notebooking instructions from the teacher’s guide is just the right amount for our workload.
I did not mention Bible study, which is something we also do together (as well as individually). Here, I share how we study the Bible together as a family.
