Family Style Homeschool Curriculum
The part of homeschool that can be the most exciting and meaningful is your family style subjects and curriculum. As a homeschool mom of 8 years, family read alouds, singing hymns, creating art, studying poetry, and writing down narrations for Bible and history together is what it is all about.
Thankfully, there are many great creators of homeschool curriculum out there that understand this too. I am going to list out our family learning picks, which lean towards the Charlotte Mason style.
Aside from Bible and read alouds, it is important to say that we do not do all of this daily. History is our favorite subject, and tends to happen 3-4 times a week. The other subjects will probably be once or twice a week. Whatever rhythm works for your family is best, so let this be a brainstorm.
This post is all about family style homeschool curriculum.
Multi Age Homeschool Curriculum
Something to keep in mind are the ages and levels of your children. If you have a toddler, you may want to structure your day with more breaks or have some of your Family Curriculum time during their nap or strip it down to a simple read aloud.
Many toddlers enjoy being present with the family at the homeschooling table. With some sensory play, magnatiles, doodle board, or playdough, they may be able to quietly listen and stay engaged. Snacks typically work well too!
Family Homeschool Curriculum
Here is what we plan to use this school year for our Morning Time. Again, you can do these family style learning at anytime of the day, and in any combination that suits your family. There are definitely days we skip it completely! The beauty is in the flexibility.
- Bible: The Word Studies from Idlewild and Co. and My Brother’s Keeper sibling study.
- Morning Time: The Kind Kingdom from The Peaceful Press – we’ve been using this since late spring, and will continue until completion. The Narnia series has been so wonderful for all ages of our family! We finished this early so I added in a couple studies below for the remainder of the year.
- State Study: We began Around California with Children’s Literature in late spring, and have enjoyed each book selection so much! This will be completed s l o w l y throughout the year.
- Hymns, Poetry, and Composer Study: I will string some things together from the AGF guide and The Kind Kingdom.
- Nature: CM Simple Studies: Pond Creatures (this goes along with the AGF guide below) and The Organic Studies (this goes great with The Word Studies for Bible).
- History: A Gentle Feast: Cycle 4
- Missionary Study: Later this year, we will start our missionary read alouds along with To Every Nation: A Study of 12 Missionaries from Not Consumed Ministries.

Homeschool Resources Used in the Past
If you’ve been around for a few, you will recognize some favorites. We used A Gentle Feast Cycle 3 last year (and loved it!). We have used resources from The Peaceful Press, Yellow Spot Sun, and CM Simple Studies. So, we are expecting a great year of stories in history and nature.
I will keep you posted on my Instagram and here about how the new to us family curriculum works out. It is always an exciting time to start the school year, but important to prioritize connections over curriculum and our Savior over schedules. I’d love to hear if we are using any of the same resources this year!
