Studying the Bible has always been a special part of our homeschool days. Even when my first child was a toddler, the Jesus Storybook Bible was a precious resource.
Charlotte Mason emphasized that Bible study is a priority and that it is intertwined into education. Our personal process keep evolving as we grow, but this is what has been working well currently.
How We Study the Bible as a Family
Scripture Memory
We use the scripture memory cards from Simply Charlotte Mason. These are index card with short verses on them. You can easily make these yourself, but I liked the convenience of the verses already selected. They were also affordable. We typically practice these during Morning Time.
New Testament
We are going through the Gospels with Simple Charlotte Mason’s guide. Twice a week, I read a chapter or two. Each child completes a written narration in their journals.
Old Testament
We are reading through The Gospel Story, which has great illustrations. Each short chapter also includes a few discussion questions.
More Resources for Homeschool Bible Study
4th grade
My 4th grader is working through Exploring the Bible: A Bible Reading Plan for Kids, which has brief one sentence questions or activities. It is created to be a daily reading plan, but we only use it Monday through Friday. It is bite sized enough that it does not overwhelm either of us.
7th Grade
My 7th grader is working through the book of Romans. She is supplementing with Simply Charlotte Mason’s Foundations in Romans study guide. This has been very fruitful!
