Before I jump into the actual 2022-2023 homeschool curriculum picks, I want to address some common questions. The homeschool planner I use is from Anna Vance Paper Co, and I will be using Layout 2B for the lesson plans. It is absolutely beautiful, customizable, and made by a fellow homeschooling family. Supporting small businesses, especially homeschooling small businesses, is important to me! Here is a link for details about my planner.

As I start gathering ideas for homeschool curriculum, I use an undated curriculum planning sheet to jot down ideas. It helps my brain to see it laid out on one sheet. This way, you can see if it could work, if it looks like too much/too little, and if you covered the bases.

8th Grade Curriculum Picks

8th Grade Curriculum Picks
  • Bible: Life in the Word, routine Scripture memory
  • Math: Shormann Algebra 1 with Geometry
  • Language Arts: Lightning Literature, IEW Finding Narnia Writing, IEW Fix It Grammar, and a middle school live literature live class with Redefining School
  • Science: Apologia Physical Science
  • History: A Gentle Feast – Cycle 4 readings
  • Economics: Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?
  • Finance: Dave Ramsey’s Generation Change (found in a Buy Nothing group)
  • Art: She is working through videos from Let’s Make Art, and her and I will try the Lily & Thistle watercolor school. Will let you know how that goes!

5th Grade Curriculum Picks

2022-2023 Homeschool Curriculum Picks
5th Grade Curriculum Picks
  • Bible: Meeting Jesus
  • Math: I already had Horizons 5 from a while back, but it isn’t something I’m satisfied with. At the last minute, I added in Right Start Math Level E. I LOVE using RSM with my little one, and I found an affordable copy on eBay. I’ll keep you posted on how it is doing Right Start with 2 children – my guess is it will be a challenge, but I really want him to have a solid grasp on math concepts before middle school level. We’ll also see if we have time for Your Business Math: Pet Store from Simply Charlotte Mason. I am thinking we will save this for next summer as a light math practice.
  • Language Arts: Lightning Literature, IEW SSS-2A Writing, IEW Fix It Grammar, and Spelling and Handwriting from A Reason For (use code Trisha20).
  • Science: Sabbath Mood Homeschool Magnets and continuing on with Beautiful Feet History of Science
  • History: A Gentle Feast – Cycle 4 readings
  • Art: Kindly Kingdoms from Yellow Spot Sun to go along with our history time period.
  • Music: Piano with Hoffman Academy

2022-2023 Homeschool Curriculum Notes

So that is what we plan to use for this upcoming school year. A few of this is new to us, but most of it has been working well for us for years!

This could look like a lot, especially with 3 children. However, we do not do all of this daily. We aim to finish table work by 1:30, with time to spare for free reading/playing, art projects, and hobbies. If anything is not working out well, we consider the factors at play, and see what adjustments make sense.

I’ll be sharing what we are planning to use for our family studies or Morning Time soon. Morning Time is actually my most favorite part of our homeschool because we get to learn together.

I wanted to say, even though you probably know, that whatever I’m using does not need to be what you use. This home education journey can be a difficult and a joyful one, often in the same day! Our family rhythms, beliefs, and individual preferences will vary, and that is perfect for this flexbility and variety that this lifestyle offers.

I pray you find something that inspires you personally, and awakens curiosity in the whole family. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out! I will be sharing our school year with this curriculum in stories on my Instagram, and hope to see you there.

For a long time, I thought giving my teens freedom For a long time, I thought giving my teens freedom would feel like one big moment of letting go. It turns out that it is actually a whole lot of small ones.

These last few months, for #homestretchhomeschooling we have talked about discernment and raising capable independent thinkers. What comes next is giving them room to live it out, while we are still close enough to help.

The chain gets longer as they show readiness. It can also get a little shorter for a season. Both are love.

Where is the chain moving in your house right now?

Soon, I will have a guide for these conversations with your teen. Comment “VIP” to make sure you are on my email list to hear about it first!

Reading aloud as a family is something I’m SO glad Reading aloud as a family is something I’m SO glad we started prioritizing early on and continue to do even in the high school years.

These are the books that are stand outs to our family over the years.

Comment “read alouds” for this list and even more of our favorites over the last decade!

What are some of your read-alouds we should not miss?

Homeschool day in the life: a typical fall Friday Homeschool day in the life: a typical fall Friday with my tween and teens 🍁

3 things that make our flexi Fridays work:
1️⃣ Morning meeting anchors the day, especially when my kids scatter to their different responsibilities afterward.
2️⃣ Independent work (math, writing, science) means I can tend to work and emails. I can’t believe we’re at this stage! It feels so recent that I had my hands in every subject.
3️⃣ A read-aloud with my little is time I’ll never regret.

Is Friday a full school day at your house… or a flexi day like ours?

Comment FULL or FLEXI below 👇 I’m so curious how you do it!

Morning basket, teen edition. 🧺 Who says it has t Morning basket, teen edition. 🧺

Who says it has to retire when your kids become teens? Ours just looks a little different now: weird start times, a lot more choosiness about what makes the cut, and way better conversations.

Simple, rich, and still so worth it in the tween and teen years.

Comment BLOG and I’ll send you all my favorite resources. ✨

Want your teens to think of others without you hav Want your teens to think of others without you having to remind them every time? 👋🏽

Keep the cards ready. This greeting card box is beautiful, and it’s also become a quiet way to disciple my teens. It has 40 cards for birthdays, thank yous, sympathy, and “thinking of you” moments. Each tab even has writing prompts and a verse, so my kids aren’t stuck staring at a blank card.

Kindness is easier when the supplies are within reach!

Comment “cards” for the link!
