This post is all about our 2024-2025 homeschool curriculum choices for 10th, 7th, and 4th grade.
I cannot even tell you how many times I have already mistyped my children’s grade levels for next year. These tween and teen years are truly flying. Not only have all of my kids grown so much in height, but in their capacity. Learning, taking on responsibilities, and giving me much reason to pause in thanksgiving and laughter.
My family does a lot of freelance work collectively, so I appreciate the ability to plan for flexibility. It also means I have some busy seasons of work, and need to consider that when choosing homeschool curriculum. There once was a season where homeschooling was my main responsibility, and I’m so glad it was during their very early years. While homeschooling is still very much the priority, elaborate hands on projects are no longer the norm. It is a different season, and I am fully embracing it!
We are continuing to homeschool with a charter school, which has worked out well for our family. Our kids are very active in their extracurricular activities. So some of my choices for this homeschool year reflect saving time, independent learning, and a bit less ambitious than my default way.

2024-2025 Homeschool Curriculum Choices for 10th Grade
History
As my oldest moves into more online courses, history is one of the subjects I love to hold for us. This year, we will be venturing into American History with Guest Hollow. After working through part of their Government, Economics, and Personal Finance course, we wanted to trial their history.
Personally, I would not recommend doing two Guest Hollow courses at the same time. It is a lot of reading, and it is just so rich, that I prefer to hone in on one study at a time. The spine of American History is A Patriot’s History of the United States. This course includes suggested video links, articles, and games.
Language Arts
This year, she will be trying an Honors English Literature and Composition class with Blue Tent Online. Last year, along with a very busy and rigorous 9th grade of Honors English with AP Homeschoolers, she also had to complete A-G guide coursework in order to receive proper credit with our charter school. However, we quickly realized that even though we loved the course, the double workload was unreasonable.
Since she enjoyed her Honors Biology class with Blue Tent, we decided to try their English course for 10th grade. I have heard great things about her instructor from peers, so we are looking forward to it!
After completing Geometry in 9th grade with High School Math Live, we decided to continue on. It was a difficult course for her, but she felt that had more to do with geometry than the curriculum. In 10th grade, she will take Honors Algebra 2. We really hesitated on the honors part because math is not her strongest subject, but since she enjoyed Algebra 1, she wanted to give it a shot.
Science
Another returner will be science at Blue Tent Online. Last year, she took Honors Biology 1, and really excelled. I was so surprised at how high her final grade was, and I credit her study skills and interest in the topic gained from all our years with Apologia science courses.
Electives
We are limiting it to 2 official electives this year. Continuing on with years of dance training, she will log her hours and receive elective credit for dance. Alongside that, she will continue her dual enrollment with a 3rd course of American Sign Language.
In addition, we will work slowly through How the World Runs and Consumer Math at our leisure. I don’t have a deadline on getting through either of these so we’ll take our time.

History
My oldest went through Exploring World History, and I thought the format may be a nice change of pace for my younger two. As I chatted with the Notgrass team, I was debating between America the Beautiful and Uncle Sam and You. They recommended I try Uncle Sam and You since there is some election discussion within the text, and this being an election year. Brilliant!
Uncle Sam and You is their middle school level government and civics course. It includes primary source documents, and eight literature recommendations, which are included when you purchase the bundle. I will be using this with both my 7th and 4th grader. Notgrass sent me their Uncle Sam & You Bundle for free in exchange for my review.
My plan is to use the Student Workbook, which includes crossword puzzles, drawing activities, and tests, with my 4th grader. Then I will use the Lesson Review, which includes daily review questions, literature review, and tests more with my 7th grader.
Next, our writing curriculum will be from IEW. He will start SSS-2B along with Fix It Grammar Level 4. We have been using IEW for over a decade, and have seen the fruit of our long-term learning!
Again, following big sister, he is taking Pre-Pre Algebra. This is an online course I found with High school Math Live, and it seems like the right fit! I was hesistant on starting him with pre-algebra just yet. Like a lot of my homeschool choices, I am not sure if that is the right choice, but we will find out soon! They have an online placement test which helped me feel more assured we are on the right track.
Another borrow from my oldest child, we will be using Exploring Creation with General Science (use code “trisha10″‘ for 10% off) for 7th grade. This is a big step up for my guy, and Apologia does a wonderful job of hand holding kids through this transition. The student notebook, in particular, really teaches how to take notes from the reading, and write lab reports independently. I love how it clearly explains how to execute science experiments with tips and reminders. It even provides a schedule and checklist, which I believe will really help my son step up in independent learning. Middle school is a great time to start leveling up in study habits and skills.
I picked up the lab kit from Nature’s Workshop Plus as usual for the convenience. Well worth it for our family!
Electives
My son wants to dabble in American Sign Language, and we recently heard of Homeschool ASL (use code “juicebox15” for 15% off) to start. It looks very organized with videos and support, so we’ll see how that goes this year.
Other than that, he enjoys learning breakdancing, coding, and Adobe suite programs. For breaking, he trains with a local crew that has been really fun. We have been exploring this coding program and enjoying that it works well for both my younger kids. Lastly, for Adobe programs like Illustrator and Premiere, we use Skillshare and my husband’s time when we can have it.

History
I’m thankful to combine my 2 younger kids again for history. I know the days are numbered for combining subjects, so I’m really going to savor history together!

Next, our writing curriculum will be from IEW. She LOVED SSS-1A, and will move on to SSS-1B along with Fix It Grammar Level 2. So glad to have found a strong writing curriculum for my kids!
For math, we tend to school year round to keep up with skills. So, she will work through Right Start Math and supplement with Apologia Math Level 5 (“trisha10” for a discount). Since Right Start Math is teacher intensive, I tend to use Apologia Math, which is more independent on the busy days. Both are hands on and I like showing different ways to get to the same concept and answer.
In January 2025, I plan to start Your Business Math: Bookstore Math from Simply Charlotte Mason. I used this series with my older two kids and love the practical application. Plus, the bookstore version will be extra fun for her because she’ll recognize many of the titles of her inventory.
Science
This will be my first time studying science one-on-one with my youngest. I’m super excited to sit with my little learner! I let her choose any topic from Apologia, and she chose Earth Science (use code “trisha10″‘ for 10% off). I showed her that she will get to make her own globe, and she was SOLD.
It will be my first time also using one of their updated full color student notebooks. It looks beautiful! We love the notebooking, schedule, visual diagrams, and lab reports which will continue to develop her study skills.

Electives
I was sent the cutest box from Homeschool Languages for Spanish 1. We’re going to dive in! It includes a workbook, games, and flashcards that are all very colorful and attractive.
As I mentioned in my video, I am being very selective with what I include in our morning meeting together. With more time needed for high school courses, independent studying, and after school activities, time is a factor I need to keep in consideration. I’ve very close to ordering LLATL for the first time for my 4th grader. I’m surprised to see you’re adding another writing curriculum. Does LLATL not have enough writing instruction? What did you feel is lacking?
Hi Laura! I personally like to emphasize writing in our homeschool. I love IEW’s writing program, and have seen much benefit from it for our kids. However, I know a lot of people who solely use LLATL for language arts, and love it! I just feel IEW is a great tool for building writing skills, and LLATL is wonderful for short lessons and my kids enjoy it.
