This post is all about our homeschool curriculum wins from the 2022-2023 school year.
Before you put everything away at the end of the school year, consider taking time to jot down your assessment of what went well. Noting what worked and what didn’t work is best when it is fresh in your mind.
I’ll note things in my planner to make it easy to access. What books did my older kids enjoy so I remember to keep them for my younger kids? How did our rhythm help with efficiency? Are there new life skills or subjects we are ready to learn in the next school year?
I like to ask about what they thought didn’t go so well (and why!). There is a natural process of critical thinking and self assessment that can come out of that discussion. Even when I think I know, I usually gain much more insight in hearing how it went from their perspective.
Additionally, I polled my kids for their favorite curriculum choices. I am sharing each of our homeschool curriculum wins from this past school year in hopes it can help you too.

2nd Grader’s Favorite
After discussing each piece of curriculum, my little one said her favorite for the year was Lightning Literature Level 3! She loved the book choices, and often read them so ahead of the schedule provided that she read them twice.
The student workbook contained short lessons on grammar, which she flew through. With language arts being her strong suit, it was not really a surprise that she looked forward to any reading or writing during school time.

5th Grader’s Favorite
My middle guy made me smile when he shared his homeschool win. I agree in that we read some great stories both as a family and individually. Thankful for our last two years with A Gentle Feast for history, literature, natural history, and citizenship. We used Cycle 4 this past school year, and my son really found his groove with independent reading.
Some of his favorite reads from Cycle 4 were Richard Halliburton’s Book of Marvels, Christian Liberty Nature Reader, and A Wrinkle in Time. It was another breakthrough in reading this year for him as he expanded his taste for different genres of books.

8th Grader’s Favorite
I was surprised to hear my daughter’s homeschool win because it was also one of the most challenging. She chose her Logic curriculum from Masterbooks as her favorite completed subject this year. They cover principles of correct reasoning, informal fallacies, and help guide students to draw reasonable conclusions from available information.
The Teacher Guide included the easy to follow schedule, and student review worksheets and quizzes. It follows a 5 day a week schedule, and took about 15-30 minutes to complete each day. She liked that it helped her connect logic to the Bible, and also study differences in worldview perspectives.
An close second worth mentioning is Physical Science (use “trisha10” for a discount. This curriculum is designed for 8th grade, and can look intimidating at first. However, she used General Science in 7th grade, and it really helped to teach her notetaking skills and study habits. Amazingly, the past 2 years of science has moved this subject up in her top favorites!
Mom’s Favorites
My favorite curriculum from this past school year has to be The Word Studies from Idlewild & Co. I detailed our review of this Bible study in the post linked below. Simplicity and richness are a rare combination to find in homeschool curriculum, and I loved that we could use it with my whole family.
Another big favorite that I’ve been talking about for a while are the Ruth Journals we use as narration notebooks. It is so meaningful to look back at their handwriting, thoughts, and illustrations. Now that my kids have completely filled out a couple each, I’m realizing even more what a special keepsake these are. The high quality of Anna Vance products ($5 off with this link) are worth it!
