Your First Anna Vance Planner: Suit Up!

Here are some tips on how to set yourself up for success from the beginning. Or at least it will make things much easier for you in the ordering process so you do not get overwhelmed.

  • Use a laptop or desktop: In order to see all of the options easily, you’ll want to use a laptop or desktop instead of your mobile device.
  • Open 3 tabs: In your browser, open 3 tabs now. If you want, you can click on these tabs below, and they should open in a new window.
    • First tab: Home Page This is where you will select all your customizations and place your order.
    • Second tab: Covers This is where you will see all of the cover design options.
    • Third tab: Planner Guide This is where you can see a comparison chart and videos of the different customization options.
  • Sit in a quiet spot: I know this may sound funny, but when I write a blog post, pay bills, or place an Anna Vance planner order, it always helps to take my laptop to a quiet spot. No interruptions or requests, and you’ll be amazed at how much you can focus!

Your First Anna Vance Planner: Select Your Type

1. Minimal Lesson Planner | Charlotte Mason Inspired

The Minimal Lesson Planner is the not as minimal as I had expected. It includes 190 pages, an optional Map Your Years section (no extra cost), 54 weeks of lesson planning, and notebook pages in the back.

  • Map Your Years
  • Weekly Lesson Plans
  • Note Pages

You are able to select your cover from around 60 beautiful designs, your interior style, your start month for the annual overview, your weekly layout style, and notebook page preference. For a minimal planner, that is a lot of options right?

This is a great planner to start with if you want a few customizations, but mainly want to focus on the weekly planning.

2. The Simple Homeschool Planner | Charlotte Mason Inspired

The Simple Homeschool Planner is probably the closest to what you would find in a planner picked up at Michael’s or Target. If you enjoy extra space for writing down monthly plans and record keeping such as reading or check lists, this may be the one you go with.

  • Annual Overview
  • Months at a Glance
  • Weekly Lesson Plans
  • Record Pages
  • Note Pages
anna vance planner lessons at a glance
Lessons at a Glance Sheets

I used this planner for our 2021-2022 school year, and loved it! One of my favorite sections of the Simple Homeschool Planner are the Record Pages. Particularly, I liked the Questionnaire, Lessons at a Glance, Reading Lists, Considerations, and Future Curriculum Pages.

3. Charlotte Mason Inspired Homeschool Planner

Also affectionately known as the “Classic Charlotte Mason Inspired Homeschool Planner,” this is for you if are a more experienced with using a planner and want all the fixings. It offers the most customization and options available, and you can make it tailored to what would best serve you. This is the one I am using for 2022-2023, but I do tend to switch it up each year.

  • Annual Overview
  • Yearbook
  • Pupils
  • Map Your Years
  • Months at a Glance
  • Weekly Lesson Plans
  • Lessons at a Glance
  • Record Pages
  • Note Pages
Flip Through of the Anna Vance Charlotte Mason Inspired Homeschool Planner.

A perk of this version is that you can omit or alter any section of the planner, where as with the other versions, it is more limited. I do not suggest this if you’re new to lesson planning because it could be overwhelming.

Your First Anna Vance Planner: Step-By-Step Order

Let’s link up and walk through ordering your first Anna Vance Planner together. I’ll use The Simple Homeschool Planner as our sample because that is the one Anna recommends if it is your first time.

1. To Begin

  • Make sure you have the 3 tabs opened I linked above. This will make this process WAY easier.
  • From the “Homepage” tab you opened, go to the Full Collection, and choose “The Simple Homeschool Planner” option.
  • The first option you will see asks you to select your Cover Choice.

2. Cover Choice

  • From the “Covers” tab you opened, scroll through and find the one that you would be delighted to see daily. Make sure to check out the partners’ cover options as well (for an additional charge) for more options.
  • Once you decide, find its number, and click over to your “Homepage” tab to select it as your Cover Choice.

3. Start Month

  • Here you select which month you would like your Months at a Glance to begin. Keep in mind the turnaround time, which as I’m writing this is around 6 weeks.

4. Binding Options

  • If you want a no hassle approach, and to be able to use it right away when it arrives, I suggest going for fully bound.
  • Once you decide, return to the “Homepage” tab to mark your selection.

5. Monthly Mother Culture Pages

  • These pages will have open ended pages to note down your mother culture goals.
  • Spaces included for reflections, areas of help needed, triumphs, reading list, and gratitude.
  • You can choose to add this in or omit these pages.

6. Weekly Layout

  • Go to the “Planning Guide” tab and scroll down to “Tab 6. Weekly Lesson Plans.”
  • You will see labeled photos of each of the weekly layout options.
  • There is a post on Anna Vance Paper Co’s Instagram that also shows samples of how each layout can be used, which may be helpful. Sample photo below.
  • Once you select your Layout, head back to the “Homepage” tab to input your Weekly Layout choice.
Sample of Layout 1A – more found on their Instagram page.

7. Weekly Additional Option

  • This one is pretty simple. Decide whether you’d like your weekly spreads behind each month OR if you’d like the weekly spreads more isolated behind a different tab.

8. Record Pages

If you choose to not use record pages, select “no” and move on to the next section.

If you would like record pages, let’s go through it!

  • Click the “Planning Guide” tab, and scroll down to “Tab 8. Records.”
  • There are 40 choices to make here! However, you are mostly checking to see what you would like included or not.
  • Samples of these individual records pages are shown in the video. Toggle between these photos, and your “Homepage” tab to input your selections for Record Pages.
anna vance planner records pages
Records Pages: Reading List

9. Notebook Pages

  • The number of notebook pages depends on your selections from previous sections. If you choose to omit some options, it can be replaced with extra notebook pages.
  • On the “Homepage” tab, select from Lined, Dot, or Grid notebook pages.

10. How Did You Hear About Us?

If you found this helpful, and want to support this blog, you can say you were referred by “Trisha @juiceboxhomeschool”. Otherwise, this is the place you can give credit to where you heard about Anna Vance Planners.

11. Add to Cart

We did it! If you want to add a Pupil Planner (Layout A is my personal favorite) or narration notebooks (Ruth Journals top bound are *chef’s kiss*), now is the time to add that in. You now finish placing your order on the “Homepage” tab. Sit back and gather your curriculum, living books, and supplies together for your Term 1.

I came across your blog in trying to set up my own planner. I am stuck on the Lesson Master tab. It has weeks 1-6 but then 43 lines in each week. I don’t understand how to use these pages. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi! I used to use this section as a place to log the books I needed for that week since we use a lot of literature based learning. I made a key with symbols for books I owned, had available at the library, had on Kindle or Hoopla, etc. This year, I opted not to get those pages since I wasn’t consistent with it.

Thank you for such a detailed post! This simple planner may actually be what I have been looking for for MONTHS now… except, I cannot see ANY of the customization options for Weekly Layout pages or record pages. The planner guide page has no “tabs” that show the different layouts/record pages – just an image of a comparison chart between minimal, simple, and classic planners. I do see the link to the YouTube video of someone flipping through the classic planner page by page, and there is a link back to this blog post.
Am I on the right tab? I don’t see anything else on the Anna Vance website that would show me the different layout choices and record pages.
I hope to order soon – at least for next year!

High school is around the corner for my son, and I High school is around the corner for my son, and I am not ready. BUT his planner is! 🙃

A random summer homeschool day in photos… We did A random summer homeschool day in photos…

We did all the things in the morning, and then we did none of the things this afternoon. It was a full and varied day!

We beta-tested a friend’s game show room today (think escape room meets all the game shows you know of) and ended the afternoon with pho and good conversation with my teens.

This is what I want to remember about homeschooling. Not just the books and the lessons (although I love them!), but the days we said yes to something different and ended up making new memories.

Summer with your people is a gift.

Just a good old fashioned summer homeschool day. ☀ Just a good old fashioned summer homeschool day. ☀️

I woke up early and got to read from my Bible, and short sections of a couple books (Untriggered by @therealamberlia and Pause by Sarah Allen). I set a weird challenge for myself to not drink my iced coffee until I get that reading in. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Then, we fit in family subjects, math, a history read-aloud, and a workout. We are off to beta test a friend’s new escape room business now!

Thought I’d join @onthecovehomeschool for a #thursdaytablescape today. Thanks Paige, this was fun!

I come back to Charlotte Mason’s Principle 12 more I come back to Charlotte Mason’s Principle 12 more than almost any other.

Education is the Science of Relations: It’s this simple, yet brilliant idea that our job isn’t to download information into our kids, but to help them feel genuinely connected to ideas, nature, beauty, and truth.

That reframe has saved me on more hard homeschool days than I can count.

If you’re new to Charlotte Mason’s philosophy, this is a great place to start. If you’ve been at it for a while, let this be your reminder for these summer months.

On the days we are home, we focus on math and language arts so it’s not a jolt of confusion when we return to fall. We are in the homestretch over here. This time nex We are in the homestretch over here. This time next year, I will have my first homeschool graduate, and I have been sitting with a lot of feelings this season.

Looking back, so much of my mental energy went to things that genuinely did not matter as much as I thought they did. Yes, curriculum and rhythms affected our days, but a lot more was at play on the day-to-day that I would have liked to spend more of my effort towards.

The things I underestimated? The speed of this all. The uneventful, ordinary days that I did not think to hold onto. The moments when they were just... kids, learning alongside me.

I do not regret choosing this path for our family. However, if I could go back and whisper something to early homeschool me, it would be: worry less about keeping up and more about showing up.

To anyone still in the thick of it, save this if you need the reminder. 🤍

Our homeschool days are feeling lighter, which fee Our homeschool days are feeling lighter, which feels about the right amount for summer. I’m noticing that since most things we are using are familiar to all of us, there is less need for my assistance.

It definitely feels like entering a new era with 2 high schoolers and a middle schooler. I am enjoying embarrassing them, and a different kind of relationship that is sometimes mom, and sometimes friend.

The book “Capable” by @sissygoff and raisingboysandgirls and it’s companion workbook for kids is a fresh addition to our rhythm. The workbook is great for kids ages 6-12, and would be a productive resource to utilize in the summer!

We’ve been using Institute for Excellence in Writing in our homeschool for over a decade, and it has been a solid and steady writing curriculum for each of my kids. I’ve seen an increase in confidence with a framework that makes sense.

This year my soon-to-be 6th grader is stepping into Structure and Style Year 2B and Fix It Grammar Level 4.

We pour so much care into setting a generous feast We pour so much care into setting a generous feast for our children’s minds. However, somewhere between the read-alouds, the math lessons, and the snacks, it’s easy to forget that our minds are hungry too.

Charlotte Mason called it Mother Culture: the ongoing practice of keeping our own minds alive and growing. Not one more thing on the to-do list, but a way to preserve your personhood while we pour out.

So here’s what’s on my plate this summer (at least on paper). 🤍

A feast doesn’t have to be elaborate to be generous. A feast for them. A feast for us, too. What’s feeding your mind this summer?

I just unboxed our 2026–2027 history, Bible, and literature for my youngest, and I honestly got a little emotional. We are using Sonlight Level F, which covers the Eastern Hemisphere, and it instantly brought me back to my very first year of homeschooling because I used @sonlightcurriculum with my oldest!

Now here I am, opening it again for the first time with my youngest daughter, and it feels wonderfully nostalgic.

What I already love is how literature-rich it is. I can already picture the read-aloud moments, the conversations, and the places we’ll “travel” together through these books.

Raising kids who can think, act, contribute, and take initiative in the real world, that’s the long game. I’ve been reading Capable from @sissygoff @raisingboysandgirls and @bethany_house_nonfiction, and it’s been such a timely reminder for me in this season with older kids.

A few small shifts I’m focusing on lately:
• inviting more ownership in daily responsibilities
• giving space for problem-solving before stepping in
• following up on their follow-through
• letting real-life practice be part of their education I’m learning that raising capable kids starts with trusting the process a little more than controlling it (hard for me!).

This principle is one I came back to when I was te This principle is one I came back to when I was tempted to simplify things too much for my kids, especially in their younger years. Mason believed children have the mental power to engage with real, rich, meaningful knowledge presented as living ideas. A generous curriculum. A trusting heart.

It was never close to a perfect scene, and I didn’t consistently have the positive homeschool vibes 😅, but I can see now how the Lord can still use that! Have you read any of these? What literary mom comes to find as one of your family’s favorites?

One thing the homestretch of homeschooling is teac One thing the homestretch of homeschooling is teaching me is this: so much of what felt small in the early years was actually foundational.

The habit of attention, a steady homeschool rhythm to our days, narrations, chores, church life, nature study, discipline, family read alouds...

At the time, it can feel repetitive and almost invisible. At times, it felt like a fight to keep at it and not lose my mind.

Years later, those same practices begin showing up with a new look. I see focus, initiative, spiritual rootedness, a sense of responsibility, and connectedness.

We are planting and toiling, often unseen, long before we see a hint of growth.

The fruit may come slowly, but it does come. 🤍

Save this for the days when the small things feel insignificant. What seeds are you planting in this season?
