A Charlotte Mason style of education can seem out of reach, but with these resource options, it is actually accessible in a practical way!

The Charlotte Mason style of education has slowly won our hearts. With its living books based learning, written narrations, and beauty subjects, it is so attractive.

However, since it originated in Britain, and years ago, implementing Charlotte Mason’s principles of education could seem unattainable. I’m so grateful for the many Charlotte Mason inspired resources available to us today.

I’m going to list out some of our favorites that have helped us, and a few that I have researched. My hope is that you will find something fitting for your family to enjoy the richness of Miss Mason’s ideas for a love of learning.

This post is all about Charlotte Mason inspired resources that aid mothers to implement these principles of education in their homeschooling.

1. Art

Creating a Masterpiece: This was referred to us by Simply Charlotte Mason. We purchased a one year membership for video lessons in a variety of art mediums. Art mediums included: Acrylic, Balsa Carving, Batik, Block Printing, Colored Pencil, Conte’ Crayon, Copper Tooling, Glass Mosaic, Gouache, Ink, Mixed Media, Oil Pastel, Pencil/Charcoal, Sculpture, Silk Painting, Soft Pastel, Watercolor, Watercolor Pencils, and Wood Burning!
Yellow Spot Sun: These work well with your history curriculum because they have packs designed to go along with different time periods. We used Architects of the Ancient World for Families, and we’ll use Kingly Kingdoms for Families with our Medieval History this year.

2. Books

A great resource for living books has been Living Book Press. They have a large selection of highly recommended books from many popular Charlotte Mason inspired curricula. Living Book Press even has a searchable section based on curriculum like Ambleside Online and A Gentle Feast.

3. Composer

We have loved using composer studies from Simply Charlotte Mason. They have a resource called Music Study with the Masters. You’ll get to know the composer as a real person through a personal portrait and see where he fits in history with the included timeline. Also included are 2 discs with the music selections described.

4. Handicrafts

Simply Charlotte Mason has more excellent resources for handicrafts like hand sewing and crochet. We’ve also found this book from Wild + Free to be helpful with guided handicrafts.

5. Hymns

This has been one of my favorites of the beauty loop. Singing praises together has been a unifying way to start the school day. Happy Hymnody has some awesome free printables of popular hymns that we like to use in our morning menus. Then Sings My Soul (pictured below) has also proved worth our time to learn the behind the scenes of a hymn.

5. Morning Time

Of all the Morning Time resources I have used, the one from Brighter Day Press has been the most special. I love Whitney’s heart in her work, and her love for children and ministry shines through each week of plans. There are 3 volumes to choose from with alternative options for read alouds.

6. Music

If you’re interested in your children learning to play the piano, you cannot go wrong with Hoffman Academy. Video based lessons that have your children playing songs on the first lesson.

7. Nature Study

There are many great resources I could mention, but I’m going to stick to the easy onramp ones. We won a short membership to No Sweat Nature Study for 3 months, and it was so helpful! This is my weak area, and Miss Cindy helped us all learn more about many nature topics. The great thing is if you purchase a membership, you have access to the entire archive of video lessons, which is vast.

8. Planner

If you have been with me for a while, you already know what I’m going to recommend. Charlotte Mason Inspired Homeschool Planners by Anna Vance Paper Co are just the best. Open ended for your needs, beautiful and high quality, and also is customizable. The bonus is that you’re supporting a small shop and fellow homeschool family who pour their heart into their work.

9. Picture Study

I have never used these before, but the Picture Studies from A Humble Place look very pretty on Instagram. It has been on my radar and wishlist for a while.

10. Support

A new resource to me in this Charlotte Mason journey is Life Giving Motherhood. It’s founder, Min Hwang, shares much Biblical wisdom in motherhood and homeschooling. It is membership based, and provides support, education, prayer, accountability, and assignments.
